Many companies think that translating their website to different languages is good for business. I couldn’t agree more. So what is their next step? Usually they find someone at their company that speaks French, Spanish or any other language they would like to see their website in and ask them to translate it. Smaller company owners sometimes even contact a friend that speaks a foreign language. Sounds like a good idea? Well, if you want to run a serious business it shouldn’t. Most of the time it means that what you pay is what you get.
In the freelance translation business, you have to be able to deal with people saying no to your services and going with one of your competitors. This can be disheartening, but remember there are always others in need of your services, and you just have to find them.
The first port of call should be your local directory such as the Yellow Pages. If you have a specific business directory for your area then even better. Simply look up “บริษัทแปลภาษา” or it may sometimes be under “translators & interpreters”. Have thumb through the listings and earmark some to contact.
The second, and easiest, means of finding a translation service is through the internet. Using the main search engines such as Google, Yahoo! and MSN can bring up hundreds of listings. One added advantage of using a search engine is that you can be more specific with your searches. For example, if you are looking for a translation service local to you type “translation service London” or “translation service Oxford”. Similarly if you are in need of a specific language try something like “German translation service”.
They look at what others who have succeeded did or didn’t do. Same for those who failed. They find the lessons from failures. When they do that they are able to make better decisions. Then they just do it all over again until they get it right.
However, as a learning tool, translation services software can be pretty handy. Sure, grammar won’t be perfect, but it is great for learning bits and pieces. The downside is the price. If you are on a reasonable budget, then I wouldn’t recommend buying some software, which often costs a few hundred dollars. There are much better alternatives to this if you are looking to spend some money though. You can view my reviews of these products at my site listed below. However, if money is not a bother, then go for it. It’s just another simple tool in your arsenal of language learning weapons.
Why is this important? Simply translation agencies get a stack of emails each day and you want to be found. The translation project manager wants to be able to pick out the enquiries for their project with ease.
Now it doesn’t means that you will go for the agency that will provide you with the lowest offer because you will have to pay for it later since the work might require revision on top of revision so every revision that will take place will cost you money. Therefore select the company which have a good experience that can give you the best work.
